In a recent development, the Nayanthara starrer “Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food” has been taken down from the Netflix streaming platform following an FIR filed against its makers. Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, the film initially hit theaters on December 1 and subsequently started streaming on Netflix on December 29. However, due to a surge of backlash on the internet, particularly concerning a specific scene, Netflix decided to remove the movie.
Controversy Unraveled:
The controversy ignited when a user named Ramesh Solanki took to social media on January 6, announcing that he had filed a case against the film. Alleging that the film was anti-Hindu, he urged the Mumbai police to register an FIR for hurting religious sentiments. Solanki specifically pointed out scenes that he found offensive, including a Hindu Poojari’s daughter offering Namaz to cook Biryani, the promotion of Love Jihad, and a character persuading the actress to eat meat, claiming that Lord Ram was also a meat eater.
The FIR was directed towards key individuals associated with the film, including Nayanthara, Jai, Nilesh Krishna, producers Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran, and the production companies Zee Studios and Netflix India’s head.
Following the filing of the complaint, the makers issued an apology and requested Netflix to remove the film from its platform.
