Renowned Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi has gracefully stepped down from his role as the ‘National Icon’ of the Election Commission of India (ECI). This decision comes in light of his forthcoming film, where he portrays the character of a political leader. Tripathi had been appointed as the ‘National Icon’ in October 2022, and the ECI, via a post on X, expressed gratitude for his significant contributions to voter awareness.

In a statement shared on X by the ECI spokesperson, it was mentioned, “Acknowledging his role as a political leader in an upcoming film, actor @PankajTripathi has voluntarily stepped down as #ECI National Icon as per terms of MoU. #ECI expresses gratitude for his impactful contribution to voter awareness & #SVEEP since Oct 2022.”
