In response to recent tensions between India and the Maldives, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has made a bold decision. The film industry workers’ union, expressing its condemnation of derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Maldivian ministers, has officially called for a boycott of shoots in the Maldives. This move is seen as a show of solidarity with the nation and its cultural values.

The official statement released by FWICE emphasizes its strong opposition to the “irresponsible and ridiculous remarks” made by Maldivian ministers and calls for a collective stand. As the oldest and largest federal body representing workers, technicians, and artists in the media and entertainment industry, FWICE urges its members to boycott the Maldives for shooting locations. Instead, they advocate choosing similar scenic spots within India, contributing to the development of tourism in the country.

Producers worldwide are also advised against planning any shootings or production activities in the Maldives, as the union stands in strong support of Prime Minister Modi and the nation. This decision follows a trend where Maldivian personalities mocked India and Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to the Lakshadweep Islands, prompting a swift response from Indian celebrities.

Celebrity Support and Promotion of Indian Islands:

Notable Indian celebrities, including Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Shraddha Kapoor, have come forward in support of Indian islands like Lakshadweep. Expressing their dismay over hateful and racist comments from prominent figures in the Maldives, Akshay Kumar encouraged a shift in focus towards promoting Indian tourism. He emphasized the need to #ExploreIndianIslands, highlighting the importance of dignity and support for our own tourism.

Conclusion:

FWICE’s decision to boycott shoots in the Maldives reflects a unified stance against derogatory remarks and a commitment to promoting Indian destinations. As celebrities join the movement, the call to #ExploreIndianIslands gains momentum, encouraging a positive shift in the entertainment industry’s choices for shooting locations and fostering tourism within the country.
